1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Universal Life Source ("ULS", "the Service") at universallifesource.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you") and Universal Life Source ("ULS", "we", "us").

2. Description of Service

Universal Life Source is a Catholic bioethical research platform that provides:

  • Searchable database of magisterial sources (Scripture, Catechism, encyclicals, Canon Law)
  • AI-assisted synthesis of search results with inline citations
  • Research sessions with passage collections and agent chat
  • Decision journal for saving and annotating research findings
  • Domain-specific browsing (medical, family, business, society, law)

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Service. By registering an account, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.

4. User Accounts

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
  • You must immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
  • Authentication is handled by Logto, our third-party identity provider. Your password is stored by Logto, not by ULS.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or computer systems
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract data from the Service without our written permission
  • Overload, crash, or attempt to disable the Service through excessive requests or attacks
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code
  • Use the Service to generate content that promotes violence, hatred, or discrimination
  • Share your account credentials with other individuals
  • Misrepresent the Service's output as official Church teaching or binding pastoral direction

6. AI-Generated Content

The Service uses artificial intelligence (OpenAI GPT-4o) to synthesize answers from source texts. AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations despite our best efforts to ground responses in verified source material.

AI-generated answers are research tools, not authoritative Church teaching. Always verify citations against original source documents. The Service is not a substitute for spiritual direction, professional pastoral counsel, or formal theological training.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Source Material

The magisterial sources accessible through the Service (Scripture, Catechism, encyclicals, Canon Law) are public domain or published by the Holy See. Citations and references to these sources are provided for research and educational purposes.

7.2 User Content

You retain ownership of content you create on the Service (journal entries, personal notes, research collections). By using the Service, you grant us a license to store, process, and display your content as necessary to operate the Service.

7.3 Platform

The Service's software, design, search algorithms, and AI integration are the intellectual property of ULS. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without our written permission.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times
  • AI-generated answers will be accurate, complete, or aligned with official Church teaching
  • Errors in the Service will be corrected
  • The Service is a substitute for professional theological, pastoral, or spiritual direction

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ULS shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or one hundred dollars ($100), whichever is greater.

10. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Your data will be deleted within 30 days of termination, except where retention is required by law.

11. Privacy

Our data practices are described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

12. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, United States of America, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Florida.
