Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026
1. Overview
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes the rules and guidelines for using Universal Life Source (ULS). By using the platform, you agree to comply with this policy. Violations may result in account suspension or termination.
2. Permitted Use
You may use ULS for the following purposes:
- Researching Catholic bioethical questions using the platform's search, journal, and research tools
- Creating and managing personal research notes, journal entries, and research collections
- Collaborating within your organization using the multi-tenant features (if applicable)
- Configuring your own AI provider keys (BYOK) for use with the platform's research capabilities
- Sharing journal entries with others using the platform's sharing features
3. Prohibited Use
You may NOT use ULS to do any of the following:
- Access other users' data: Attempt to view, access, or modify data belonging to other users or organizations without authorization. This includes exploiting vulnerabilities, guessing URLs, or using another user's credentials.
- Scrape or bulk-export source content: Systematically extract, scrape, or bulk-download the source texts, passages, or other proprietary content from the platform using automated tools, scripts, or manual copying at scale.
- Share API keys: Share your BYOK API key with other users, or use another person's API key without their consent.
- Abuse rate limits: Attempt to bypass, circumvent, or exceed the platform's rate limits through automated means, multiple accounts, or other methods.
- Attack the platform: Attempt to disrupt, disable, or compromise the platform's infrastructure, including DDoS attacks, SQL injection, XSS attacks, brute-force authentication, or any other form of attack.
- Spread malicious content: Upload or distribute malware, viruses, or other malicious code through the platform's features (journal entries, research notes, shared links).
- Misrepresent identity: Create accounts with false information, impersonate another person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Violate laws: Use the platform for any purpose that violates applicable local, state, national, or international laws or regulations.
- Reverse engineer: Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the platform's code or infrastructure to discover internal implementation details.
- Resell or redistribute: Resell, sublicense, or redistribute access to the platform without written authorization from ULS.
4. BYOK Responsibilities
If you use the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) feature:
- You are responsible for the security and cost of your own API key
- You must comply with your AI provider's terms of service (OpenAI, Anthropic, or others)
- You are responsible for any data processing agreement you may need with your AI provider
- If your API key is compromised, you must rotate it through your provider and update it in ULS settings immediately
- ULS is not responsible for charges incurred by your API key, even if caused by a platform error
5. Organization and Multi-Tenant Use
If you use ULS as part of an organization:
- Organization owners and admins are responsible for managing member access and roles
- Members should only access data relevant to their role and responsibilities
- You may not invite users to your organization for the purpose of circumventing individual usage limits
- Organization data belongs to the organization, not to individual members
6. Content Standards
When creating journal entries, research notes, or shared links:
- Content must be related to the platform's purpose (Catholic bioethical research)
- Content must not contain hateful, defamatory, or harassing material
- Content must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
- Shared links are public — do not include sensitive personal information in shared journal entries
7. Violations and Enforcement
If we become aware of a violation of this policy, we may take the following actions:
- Warning: For first-time, minor violations, we will send a warning and request correction
- Rate limit reduction: For rate limit abusers, we may reduce limits or temporarily restrict access
- Account suspension: For serious or repeated violations, we may suspend the account pending review
- Account termination: For severe violations (attacks, data theft, illegal activity), we may permanently terminate the account
- Legal action: For violations that cause harm to ULS or other users, we may pursue legal remedies
8. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of a violation of this policy by another user, or if you believe your account has been used without authorization, report it to [email protected].
Include as much detail as possible: the nature of the violation, the user or account involved (if known), and any evidence you have.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
